I only watched the Rick Beato interview with Jarrett last week and found it incredibly moving when they were listening back to Solar. It actually bought me to tears. It's so sad to think he will never play at that level again but also inspiring to see how much he enjoys listening to it and the constant suprise as each chorus goes by. That was a wonderful find from Beato and a real insight into how an artist views himself. He didn't really comment about it at the end but his appreciation was obvious.
Thanks again for a wonderful piece of writing, I never knew the Koln Concert story.
"Vera Brandes, who was reportedly fourteen years old at the time, managed to convince Jarrett to proceed with the concert". Well, that's a bit too improbable, she was actually 18 at the time of the concert.
Wonderful piece. Saw that June 70 show as well. Didn’t know my friend Vera Brandes (I helped break her client Andrea’s Vollenweider in America) was behind the Koln concert nor how close it came to not happening. My appreciation for that beautiful recording is further enhanced with this deep background, 59 years on! Thanks brother.
Jam packed with rich memories, keen insights, and wonderful music.
Laura Nyro was actually mesmerizing that night, but I get why you left. Cheers!
