M Squad starts almost exactly like Leslie Neilson’s (much later) show Police Squad. Clearly Lee Marvin was an influence. Had to look it up on Wikipedia to confirm.
Good post! There's a new book called "Dreamsville" that discusses the music Mancini created for "Peter Gunn" and "Mr. Lucky", including a guide to the music in each episode.
This is a really cool piece Tyler. Thanks so much for doing it. I’m a huge Cassavetes fan and when I went to NYU film school, Martin Scorsese revealed he was as well. I met Cassavetes, Ben Gazzara and Peter Falk, on the streets of New York while they were filming Husbands. Three very cool guys. I rewatched Husbans recently and I think it’s some of their best work.
This was fun reading. Wish these tv noir shows were streaming somewhere. Don't make 'em like they used to!
Johnny Staccato complete episodes on You Tube. Peter Gunn on Tubi. Free with commercials. Enjoy
Thanks!

Very cool, they don't make TV shows like that anymore!
Remember SCTV doing a parody of it.

Thanks, Todd. I have to check that out.
Nice. Peter Gunn is a great soundtrack. I did a deep dive into Staccato, which you might dig:
