"Democratizing filmmaking" is an odd notion. Filmmaking has been notable for having costs plummet to the point where anyone with a phone can shoot and edit. Does Chatgpt "Democratize" Writing? Does Midjourney "Democratize" painting? No, it just gives the untalented a veneer of technical competency, creating a bigger haystack where the rare and hard-to-find needles of art are tossed.
Daniel, I think you're unfairly judging "the untalented." Not everyone has your intelligence or your ability to craft a sentence, or express their opinions as you can. With these AI tools, they can exercise their creativity in a way never before possible. As for the marketplace, that has always been an arena of great injustice. I remember when the internet arrived and musicians were able to break free from the slavery imposed upon them by record labels. "It's going to level the playing field," people said. Instead, there are millions more people vying for our attention.
As fascinating as this all is, I find it very frightening. I have always believed that it is in the "doing" of something that one learns; making mistakes, then learning how to get what it is you want - be it in film, music, writing, art, any creative genre. This AI sora just creates it from a text? We are moving in the direction as a society of not having to think to create something. And for me, that is scary. As it stands, this present generation does not even communicate humanly; everything is texted. People don't even call each other much. I guess we will eventually live in pods. Thank you for this.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Barbara. I would agree that fewer people communicate in a human way these days. But creative tools have always, and will always keep changing. Creating AI video isn't really so easy. I'm finding that I really have to exercise tremendous creativity to create prompts that produce the result I seek. It's a lot different than just picking up a camera and shooting something.

This is very interesting work, Bret. Menschia is a damn hoot!
Thank you. My AI journey is just beginning. Saw an interesting t-shirt on the street yesterday: Life is a journey without a map. Amen.
