I get this Bret, spot on. I always wanted to have a 'pen pal' when I was a kid. Was never able to experience that but now... an intensely positive aspect of the internet!
When people meet jazz they fall in love. Musicians or not, it doesn't matter. Jazz is a matter of passionate devotion. Seems to me that when people are in it, they're in deep. Which is as it should be.
Bret, I spent 30 years writing a definitive jazz novel. It won Honorable Mention from Writer's Digest and it's a good read. I want the book to belong to the jazz community. I grew up middle class, Jewish, but by age 16 I had connected with Ornette and did some other things. PLEASE read chapter one and you may be hooked. How can I make this happen? Thanks. I watch yr vids every day. Arthur.
Brett please give us more of your commentary on Jaz, music, i and what creative music is performed in the area that you live. I may wish to bring a small jazz trio to your area, and I’m wondering if there are any places that would welcome swinging performers? are there drums available to rent in your area? I have friends in Mexico City where I could score tubs…, how close are you to Mexico City, based upon everything that you’ve presented over the years as the video guy and your excellent commentaries over the years. I think I know what type of music you enjoy. It’s gotta be creative. It’s gotta be popping, and it definitely has to swing. Something in the vein of chasing the Trane probably would make u very happy …. Something like selfishness or Africa Brass or Coltrane selections like The Promise …or blues or cedar Walton material…would appreciate a response as to the possibility of visiting your area at no cost to you. I’m also able to send you recordings of our performances and I think you will be more than pleased. If it doesn’t swing, it doesn’t mean a thing correct?
Myron. No regular jazz gigs here in Guanajuato. A night here and there and a concert from time to time. The type of jazz that's very popular here is The Quintette du Hot Club de France, led by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli.
If you wanted to come here, it would have to be a gig at the Cervantino Festival, which is in October. It's the largest arts festival in Latin America and they always feature several jazz groups. I don't know how to get booked there, though: https://festivalcervantino.gob.mx
Mexico City is six hours drive and there's a thriving jazz scene down there. Several full times jazz clubs and lots of different types of jazz.

The Zoot Prestige Story?
Yes indeed. I am in love with this book. It's autobiographical and just nuts.

Makes me wonder if we often have more in common with people thousands of miles away rather than our neighbors next door
Probably. Unless you live in New York City.
A friend is a treasure, but be cautious about those who gain your trust and then need frequent gifts of money.
I got this friend, man he’s always got water with him. Love that guy.
